Just visited ifilm (thks to ALCY), a place to watch movie trailers. The thing abt trailers is tht they're short, quick n intense - movies tht may be boring as hell could look so exciting.
Thus, commercial american movies to watch out for as of now:
-> Underworld
| Dummy
| Gothika
| The Singing Detective
| Texas Chainsaw Massacre
*update* u HAVE to check out the "Uncensored" section too! =)~
and under "Games" - Making of Midtown Madness: See why the pedestrians look so real in this making-of mockumentary. Hilariously stupid!

June-Sept: a summary
What some people I know who've graduated have done-
> Established themselves in some prominent companies
> Decided the line in which they can see their careers growing
> Got their first respectable paychecks
> Experimented with other lines and realised what they don't want to do
> Concluded planning process for setting up of companies
> Started on second degree
> ORD'd
What I've done since graduating-
> Drank beer
> Danced a lot
> Worked for peanuts as a film extra
> A crappy website
> Watched a movie called Sasayaki (Moonlight Whispers) in the Japanese Film Festival last nite with Wenz, Wong & Jo. It was a pretty cool movie, I would even call it romantic if not for the themes involved.
What I loved abt it - the lovely rural Japanese landscape tht the Pervert (Hidaka) in the flick was cycling thru. I especially liked the scene where said Pervert and his soon-to-be-Dom chick gf (Kitahara) were on the bicycle speeding thru path in the mud flats. By now u should realise what a strange flick this was to be - a Pervert and a Dominatrix? Do not think tht its a movie abt strange sex, no, on the contrary, its more abt bad sex (really! the kids looked like they din noe what they were doing!). But seriously, it was essentially, really a coming-of-age movie, except tht love was not to be normal between this couple.
I liked the portrayal of the master/slave thru the use of camera height and angles, and also the mis-en-scene like the dog calendar on the wall making it seem as tho Kitahara was crying abt Hidaka being the literal dog. The ending scene where the couple sit perched on a grassy hill watching something in a distant is all too beautiful - kinda plays out MY fantasies. Too bad last nite was the last screening, but if u ever get your hands on it, I highly recommend it.
Take note that altho this relationship is based and actually started from training at a Kendo Club, it does not imply that everyone (if anyone at all) who does kendo is a masochist or a sadist! We're really normal people deep down - looking for love and pain. oops..

This was inspired by MaNgO's blog -
If the local movie "Perth" ever makes it to the bigscreen here in SG, watch out for me in these "extra" parts:
Wedding Scene
1) Standing in the background as Vernicia walks into Ballroom of Marina Mandarin, talking to 2 other guys.
2) in the background seated at a table beside the stage with back facing cam as "son" talks on hp to his wife.
3) Being thrown across the screen into a metal flower stand by Lim Kay Tong as he stumbles into his "son's" wedding uninvited.
4) In the background as KT gets dragged out of the ballroom - whining.
Clubbing Scene
1) Breakdance sequence, in background cheering breakdancing duo, disturbing Mango.
2) Sitting at corridor with Willy n Mango as the camera makes an establishing shot of En Lounge.
3) Staring irritatedly at KT as he toasts the entire club (had to keep only my eyes in sight as director Gjinn feared I'd be recognised)
4) Whispering to Mango after KT pukes and passes out on table.
5) Background of the club having drunken conversation with Australian extra (who wants to be a pilot) while KT and Selvaraja are talking on dance floor
6) stumbling thru' dance floor with said Aussie in tow during KT/Selvaraja conversation
7) Sitting in far distance as Mai turns around after being called by KT

"Spank Me"
Boat Quay was once a place where many in Singapore thronged to - to drink, to dance, to party - to have fun. Of late, it has become kinda quieter, with more dime a dozen start-up pubs tht dun last more than half a year. Despite this, there's a little gem of a place somewhere in the middle called "BQ Bar". And it was HOT!
I got there abt 1:30am, and it was packed! there was a hen-nite going on, and at any one time, there were at least 2 ladies dancing on the bar-counter. One of them kept lifting up her skirt to brandish black undies with the words "Spank Me" printed on her bum. There were guys with huge fake afros dancing around and acting stupid, and there was us. The DJ went thru so many different genres of music, but eventually settled on some great R&B. So we danced all the way till the pub closed and carried on even then behind the closed doors while the staff started clearing up. =) tht was 4:30am.
The merits of bar-top dancing:
I'm so glad tht Singapore legalised bar-top dancing - it is really quite harmless, and I dun understand what they were worried abt when they were deliberating upon this issue. Of course I'd prefer it if they kept women up there instead of allowing some drunken men who can't dance to climb up. Women just have to gyrate abit, sway their hips, and TADAH! you've got an audience! Its great spectator-sport, and now, one can simply watch these babes strut their stuff while having your quiet moment at the bar. Men on the other hand just look embarrassing, and they're sure as hell NOT sexy (even tho they may think they look it)! And of course, there's nothing like having 2 women do some dirty-dancing while they're up there..
Women and dancing:
Where do they learn to move like that!? Some women just have the moves and the grooves to drive men nuts! correct me if I'm wrong, but I dun think they actually practice in front of the mirror.. so how do they noe how to move the way they do!? Perhaps its in the music - something abt R&B getting into your soul, and moving u in the most natural way.. we're talking guttural cavemen here - perhaps it evolved from some primate mating rituals?
Would u say I'm a voyeur if I love watching certain women dance? Mike mentioned tht - not tht I mind it, but I just never saw it tht way. I din think you'd actually term it voyeurism if everyone was doing it. It'd be more an expected reaction. I'd call it deviant behaviour only if its a little out of tune with what other ppl would do. If there was a really hot lady dancing in front of you (and dun tell me she doesn't want the attention!), wouldn't you look? It brought back images of the sweetest gal i noe dancing.. 8D~~ hmm..

I started a questionnaire just, and I found tht I couldn't even get past the first question.
Which statement - (a) or (b) - **BEST** describes you?
(a) Sociable, outgoing, animated, expressive, acts before thinks.
(b) Private, reserved, thoughtful, thinks before acts.
I believe I embody both aspects a lot, in the way I am to ppl. I cannot comprehend why i behave in such a way, but I just do sometimes. I am not schizoid, mebbe its just a moody thing. In any case, a questionnaire that cannot take this into account will ultimately be a highly-inaccurate one. *end of questionnaire*

"do u really think I'm tht shallow?"
I have a bone to pick, but I dunno who to pick it with. I like looking at beautiful ppl. They're gorgeous, pleasing on the eye, and offer a possibility of something better. However, line up a tall, broad-shouldered, chisel-jawed hunk beside me, and in comparison, I look almost sub-human! I like having my ego bruised and battered too. Lucky there aren't tht many of these arnd.
I dun believe the crap ppl say abt how having a sense of humour, heart of gold, and other politically correct terms are what they're looking for when from obvious observation, we noe its all bullshit. they just dun want to sound shallow.
"do you really think I'm tht shallow?" well, yea. if a kid in primary one (supposed innocence) can make someone feel totally alienated by acting totally irked at being so close to him, then yes, no one else is spared.
I have seen many ppl whom we think as totally sane go and get hooked up with ppl we have little respect for, or we find are total sleaze bags. and then they will spout all the good character traits of tht person. When a breakup eventually happens, we start to hear of all his failings (some of which we of course noticed long ago, but seemed to have been unimportant then). As my favourite quote-worthy person, Blaise Pascal said -
"The heart has its reasons, of which reason knows nothing".
I'm sorry, but I think the whole world is shallow..
The following are lyrics of a song tht my talented teenage cousin, Dwight Tay, wrote and sang for at an event. The first time I heard it, I realised tht my cousin isn't all tht different from me. We've both been thru' this feeling. we noe it by heart. I fell in love with this song, and the way he sang it, and I hope to share tht with u soon.
Ordeal
So i put on my mask again,
to survive another day,
and just to cover up the pain.
the mask shoves it all away,
and everything inside of me,
just feels so bad (as though im going mad..),
and everything that i ever held so close to,
just really feels so empty..
why do i have emotions,
why is this all that i can feel,
i really have no ill intentions,
i just want this to heal.
the day is over;
successful cover,
but i dont know if i can survive tomorrow.
Now i just lie in my room,
find bliss in the gloom,
and i look at the wall,
see all the dry stains,
guess i'll have to open my wounds again.
and someday he will come and take me,
take me away.
He is more than my emotions,
he is beyond what i can feel,
and the state of depression,
i know someday it will heal.

its almost 3 am... I can't believe I'm getting ready to go out. I'm wearing a nice blue spanish shirt... I smell nice.. all this... for a film shoot.
we're doing a clubbing scene tonite at a place called EnLounge @ mohd sultan. its for a local movie called "Perth" starring Lim Kay Tong and other unknowns. by a director called Gjinn who also did Pontianak.. I'm an extra, of course.
Well... its gonna rain, so initial plan to ride there will prolly be changed. taxi-cabbing.. sigh. sleep...
*update*
The shoot took much longer than expected, initially supposed to end at 12, it extended to 2, and finally concluded at 4pm. Yes, I spent more than 12 hours on set. and the fun bits last only a short while. for all tht waiting, it definitely wasn't worth it at all. Actors are multi-skilled cos of this aspect. They have too much time while waiting that they HAVE to pick up smtg, a book, a new skill, etc etc. If not the brain will just rot man. Talking to other ppl cannot last for so many hours/weeks/months of a shoot. I brought friends, and cards, but circumstances were such tht we still got bored, and ended up sleeping much of the day away. Lucky thing it was a rainy day.

And then *drum roll* the female lead appeared. Big teardrop eyes, sharp nose, wide mouth, lovely heart-shaped face, wavy curls. The 3 of us couldn't stop staring at her. Her name's Ivy and she's in Arts 3 doing SW. Chio! Dude thinks she has the kind of looks which make guys like him want to take care of her and be her knight in shining armour. She missed the step twice while coming outta the Lounge at the earlier part of the nite, and White Knight and Dude wanted to catch her if she fell again. Unfortunately the morning was chilly coz of rain, so she put on the jacket over her pink halter.
Finally got our turns at abt 7 am. Scenes to watch out for in 2 yrs' time:
1. Me walking past Ivy and Kay Tong as he shouts "Mai (her screen name)!"
2. Me dancing vigorously wif White Knight behind Kay Tong on the dance floor as Dude tries to jostle me aside
3. Me walking across the lounge wif White Knight wif a bottle of Touche in our hands
4. Me peering curiously from the booth beside Kay Tong as he shouts "YAM,YAMYAMYAMYAM.. SENG!"
5. Me sitting wif Dude and White Knight at the counter in the corridor
Sounds v short, and prob will be, wif cuts and all, but it took them 14 hrs to call it a wrap and release us. In b/w, we took naps whenever and wherever we could in the holding area.

One good thing about Friendster.com - it re-acquaints me with friends I've lost contact with. One of whom is a gal called Felica. She must have been going thru the friendster list and either recognised the name or the face. Anyway, this is one gal whom I haven't had any contact with in 5 years, and all of a sudden, I receive an email. a definite nice surprise..
Anyway, point of this is that during the conversation tht ensued, she mentioned how she had a friend she hadn't seen since pri sch who still sends her birthday pressies and gifts from his travels.. I dun understand such ppl. are they truly nice? do they just really cherish memories of a past tht may never be revived? I dun even rem my good fren's birthdays! this guy not only rems, but he also makes sure he gets smtg for u. Makes u wonder wat he does for his buddies, or frens he sees more often..

Salsa - like alot of other things we do in life, needs a warm-up. a short session of trying out and adjusting.. a period of time to get into the groove, and once there - dance like there's no tmr..
I've brought JY to Xenbar twice already, and I figure one more time and there'll be no need for her to attend the Beginners 1 class at Attitude Dance Studio; she can start at Beginner 2 right away! She's caught on pretty fast, and has improved tremendously in just 2 sessions! and did I mention the enthusiastic bunch tht is my present class (or rather, recent class)? Linna (our instructress) has mentioned tht she's very keen on us cos we go to Xen and Union Sq to practice.. she intends to form a small dance group tht does public performances once in a while - and she hopes to get us into it when we're better! now THAT is exciting!
I looked up into the sky tonite, and to my surprise, saw Scorpius had been replaced once again by Orion.. a pleasant surprise - I hadn't looked up for quite some time now. how things have changed..

House of 1000 Corpses
A movie written and directed by one of my occasional mood muses - Rob Zombie. The man behind the dark, sick, perverse White Zombie music videos tht u see on MTV.. I appreciate him musically, but I alwiz had this uneasy feeling abt the videos. So when I first saw the poster for the a/m movie, half of me was excited, yet there was this overwhelming uneasy feeling. It promised to be a gory movie. I really had no idea wat it would be abt.
Abit abt my film-watching history - I do love movies. even the crappy ones. I used to rent crappy b-grade movies and invite frens over just to watch and laugh.. one of the best crappy movies tht I can use to give an idea of the genre would be "From Dusk till Dawn". get it? the kind u dun mind screaming and laughing loudly at, cos u won't really miss the plot.
Back to House- Mark finally got his hands on the DVD, and on the spur of the moment, I asked if I could hang on to it. My curiosity got the better of me, and I quickly got some company to watch it with me - glad Shuyin lives nearby. We nearly got side-tracked by Little Voice, but neither of us could decipher the accents, so in went the DVD..
Macabre. Gruesome. Bloody. Unsettling. Sick. some words tht came to mind throughout the movie. Other words were Retarded and Stupid. There was no plot. Was this even a horror movie? I was right in describing it as a macabre movie before we started. But we weren't here for the plot were we? Just to find out what these artistic ppl can come up with given free reign of a canvas tht they dun usually paint on. In summary - stick to making music mr Zombie.
Strange how I was almost scared to watch the movie, but once halfway through it, I was sitting up and trying to squint to see the gory details better. I guess blood and gore really doesn't scare me anymore. We've been desensitized by the media - games, movies, tv, print ads. over n over again. nothing shocks us anymore. even dead bodies from wars in the news look like smtg the SFX crew came up with. We mite be on an endless search for the new and the innovative - finding new ways to scare, shock and surprise.

I've been drowning in my thoughts Lord, from lack of things to do these days. I finished CSI (season 3), decided to take a break from surfing everyday looking for nice job titles to send my resume to, a break away frm personality tests frm HR depts.. a break frm wat the world requires of me.
Even when I think I'm sleepy, I lie down in my bed, the lights are off, but my brain's still mis-firing certain synapses - none of them of u. I force myself to close my eyes, and focus on nothing, cos tht's wat I find solace in. it is almost dawn and I see some rays of light dancing on my wall when I start to drift... only to awaken 4 hours later. synapses firing again.. like the flames of eternal damnation, licking at the sinners' toes.
I love my friends, I love seeing them, I love spending time with them. Talking to ppl keeps me away from the darkness in my head, and keeps the smile on my face.
but its just a phase. short, transitory. It'll soon be over.
Amen.

Loveletter to Friend
hey there my dear friend,
my, look how you've grown. I've known u for a time, and then u were different. so was i. we got to know each other thru' circumstance, and tht's how we first became friends. our friendship has since blossomed into what it is now due to the efforts we've both put in - you and i. how close we are is cos of what we did, what we've gone thru, what we've seen together, how we've helped each other.
Our paths are ever-changing. We've no set course to take. Neither of us knows where we're going next, nor if we'll even be doing it together. Try as we might, we can only control so much. we each have our own destinies to live out, our own choices to make. I only wish I could protect you from the sin that is an inevitable part of our world. I wish I could be the one holding your hand as you venture into the unknown. I wish I could say that I'll always be there for you. I really do. But I don't want to make a promise I cannot keep. Life throws us the occasional surprise now and then.
I treasure the time we've spent together, I treasure you. These things can never be forgotten, it remains here in my heart till alzheimer's takes us. Even though I would love to keep you as my own, I know that that may not be what you want. The choices you make henceforth are made with you in mind; love, passion, desire, greed, lust, and the other emotions in collaboration with rational thought and personal experience will decide for you. Let not your decisions be bound by anyone or anything.
And so, before our paths diverge (if it does at all), let us appreciate what we have and what we are to each other. You are not forgotten; you are much-loved by yours truly. May you find that which is most important to you..
Yours, till alzheimer's takes us,
Your Friend

funny how a familiar scent of the past in the middle of the night can cause one to dream of days gone by..
Last nite before I slept, I caught a whiff of a familiar scent. dun ask me where it came frm, I was home; it mite have just been in my mind (and I hadn't even been thinking abt her..). anyways, I went to sleep and woke up dreaming of her.
Its the old familiar feelings associated with her - jealousy, insecurity, unrequited passion. I hadn't felt this in a while.. could it be my body's missing the pain? mebbe my body's a sadist by nature and I din noe abt it? why couldn't I have awoken with dreams of the good times instead? I dun think there's any control in dreams. but if I could write the script for tonite's dreams.. I'd make it a wet one.

I noe a very cute 14 (mebbe 15 by now) year old frm my choir. I think she's the cutest-sweetest girl ever. Her dad's an ex-bike-racer and he owns a Ducati 996/8. Everytime I see her, I kid with her abt borrowing her dad's bike, or getting him to give me a ride, or going to her estate to see her dad's bike (on sundays when he uncovers it for public viewing).. Over the last week, she told me he's going to Portugal to watch a race, and business of course, and said his bike will be sitting there for 2 weeks, and how she's gonna ride it etc etc.. and I, as usual, started kidding her abt how she should get the keys and let ME have them so I can give her a ride wherever she wanted..
now this gal, goes home, and actually.. really.. ASKS her dad abt it.............. and now I've made arrangements to go over to her place tmr to talk to her dad!!!!!
I'm not really hoping to get my hands on his bike of course, I dun even have the license to handle tht class of bike (and for a good reason, cos I noe I'll give in to the temptation). I'm just going over cos I'm damn free these days, and I'm going there to talk to him. us bikers alwiz love talking to each other. we love talking abt our babies, our past experiences, and learning from other ppl. seriously, I'm not hoping to get his bike for 2 weeks. serious.
ya rite!!!!
*update - I called him and we had a nice chat. seeing from my point of view, I wouldn't lend my bike to anyone for any length of time unless I was arnd.. of course I wasn't expecting him to lend it to me either! but well.. its alwiz worth the dream. heh..

A lot of my friends would say tht I seem to noe a lot of ppl. Everytime we go out, I alwiz meet say hi to someone, stop and chat or mebbe just see someone familiar. Its true. I'm one who likes looking at ppl. I used to say I'm an observer (comes from my teenage years spent waiting for ppl). And I guess somehow, the circles I'm in tend to grow ever bigger..
in any case, I beg to differ. I feel tht tht statement is untrue. Personally, I dun actually noe a lot of ppl - as in... noe them deep enuff to call them real friends. and I really wonder how far in life we have to carry on a masquerade, of having to keep up with appearances. by not saying hi to a particular someone, are u eliminating possible contacts, future brushes, opportunities, losing out on a good thing? There're endless possibilities..
Kudos to those who can juggle a billion frens at one time. I for one am really poor at it. doesn't help tht I dun use the phone much.. (See la, getting addicted to Friendster.com already.. ) In any case, I alwiz fall back on my argument that I have enuff frens. I dun need to noe the whole world. But then, I realise tht in some situations, its good to have tht advantage..

Computers - finicky friend; foulest foe
I tried starting up my PC sometime late on this nice afternoon, and lo.. it didn't seem to be working! It wasn't like a post-virus, post-installation problem. I didn't do ANYTHING to it the nite before.. tht was the distressing bit.
I then spent the next 2 hours trying to find the problem, proceeding to remove my peripherals one by one, and restarting each time I did so, to find tht nothing was working! I couldn't get past the startup screen (the part where the RAM counter flicks like crazy?). my flagging spirit contrasted with the increasing amount of verbal vulgarities being spewed.. I went so far as to even remove the CPU from its housing (and gave the heat-sink a little dusting)! and after everything, it STILL didn't work! *sigh* my motherboard failed again? did tht mean a shopping trip to Sim Lim tmr? argh argh..
You know how computers are.. they give u a peace of heaven, then u become reliant, and just when u think u can get happy, it decides its gonna take away your new-found happiness, and replace it with pain and agony.. and just when u think u've resigned its fate to new parts, it works again! yeap.. bloody shit thing suddenly worked fine when I finally put everything back and told it tht this was the last time.. hey, it never fails to threaten the PC with static.
Ok, other than the geek-speak, I was just hoping some of you mite identify with this phenomenon. ya.. Teaman alwiz reminds me tht I have no fate with computers.. I blew up a few before. ohwell..

Just got introduced to this new online addiction called "www.friendster.com". Another ICQ, mIRC, imesh.. another program tht came abt because of the internet age. What I love about technology - its supposed to make life easier for you, but in the end, with each and every new piece of crap tht comes out, u realise tht your life is being divided up more and more. Each of it requires some of your time, without which, it may not function properly, or its existence is not fulfilled. However small amt of your time each requires, as a collective, it takes up a lot more of your life!
So what u end up with, is essentially - less time, less gratification, and life would still not be long enuff to do all tht u want to do.
Well, enuff griping, this friendster program allows you to see your frens' frens, and perhaps even msg some, get to noe them in real life, and who noes wat may follow. How issit then, tht I felt more stress than anything? Already, life is so hard to live, with each new success, we feel we're closer to our goals. Yet somehow, having to live up to someone elses' gallery of frens seems to make it so much harder.. there're worries tht perhaps u won't match up? or worries tht this new addiction will take up more time than u can afford? (oh, I'm still griping..)
In any case, let's just carry on with life, and leave these to when we have time to burn.

Fake Plastic Trees
~Radiohead
A green plastic watering can
For a fake chinese rubber plant
In the fake plastic earth
That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plans
To get rid of itself
It wears her out
She lives with a broken man
A cracked polystyrene man
Who just crumbles and burns
He used to do surgery
On girls in the eighties
But gravity always wins
And it wears him out
She looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
My fake plastic love
But I can't help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run
And it wears me out
And if I could be who you wanted
If I could be who you wanted
All the time, all the time

If you were given 30 words to describe yourself, wat would u say? I was just reading one of those little booklets they give u at some crappy beauty pageants, and if it were my face in there (not likely in the first place), which precious 30 words would I put into tht little caption? which personal motto, the epitaph with which to live life.
"Believe in yourself; know your limitations, and alwiz try to surpass them."
"Try everything, u'll never noe what u want till you've had a taste of it."
"Don't be afraid to chase your dreams; your only stumbling blocks are the reluctance to let go and your parents."
"Making a new fren is just as simple as saying 'Hi'."
"Kendo is life, kendo is for life."
"In Kendo, the fastest n surest way in is through the centre. Trickery can only take u so far."
"Treasure what u have, u never know when u mite lose it."
"Savour every moment, you may never get another chance."
"Love me, love my dog."
"The measure of a man's character is determined by how he treats the one beneath him."
"The opportune moment is the here and now, seize it or live in regret."
"Live life without regrets."
"Alwiz aim for the sky, cos if u miss, at least u'll hit the mountain. but if u aim for the mountain, u mite very well end up at the bottom."
"Bullshit is like hot air, it's there everytime u breathe out."
okok. I noe I sidestepped my intro and ended up writing abt mottos. These are just guidelines which affect what I do in life. I do noe that I've many regrets in life, some of which have been decisions made based on these very same guidelines. So I'm not saying tht these are guidelines to great success (look at the bum I am!), its just here so u could glean some insight into the way I think, or use them urself, if they make sense. I used to think the bible and the 10 commandments were great guidelines to live my life by, but tht's changed somewhat now.
I would recommend this book tho - "Winning 101- Insight and Motivation to Help You Achieve Excellence" by Van Crouch. it's filled with many short motivational phrases by well-known personalities, the type u could live by:
"You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you." - Dale Carnegie
"Take calculated risks; that is quite different from being rash." - George S. Patton
"If you can dream it, you can do it. ... this whole thing was started by a mouse." - Walt Disney
"I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do." - Helen Keller

Here's an idea for an adventure:
1) Get $700 (for a one-way plane ticket somewhere, plus a little bit of initial essential money).
2) go to your country of choice (or at least what your budget allows u) with a small backpack.
3) live, breathe, work, explore.
4) dun go home till you've gotten some life experience, been into at least 10 houses for dinner, and made at least 20 international contacts.
5) and of course, till you've earned enuff for tht one-way ticket home.
If you're looking for more of an adventure than the contacts bit, pick a really remote country (i.e. jungles of Peru). If you're more for contacts, go to a holiday destination and pimp yourself (i.e. Ibiza, Nice, Bangkok).

The thing abt house music - its a simple beat, rhythmic, constant, and oh so very danceable. its not like R&B which is more a bump & grind kinda thing. for house, u can dance by yourself. and its even more so when u get yourself pumped on alcohol or other substances. you just simply close your eyes, move to the thumping, and just... lose yourself..
no matter how u were feeling, just throw your cares away, move, sweat. wave your hands, stamp your feet, shake your head, sway your hips. it doesn't matter wat you do. u just get into the groove, and do your 'thang.
intoxicating house music.
Ever feel bad abt calling ppl on the phone? u're dying for a frenly voice to talk to, so u reach for the phone, and dial a number. a voice answers from the other side, and there is an exchange of pleasantries. U can't tell wat's going on at the other side, only wat tht voice told u. u coulda interrupted them doing smtg really impt.
the conver could last hours, or just till something happens. or it could last just 10 measly seconds. sometimes they say they'll call u. but sometimes they dun call at all. what do u do? There could be various ways of receiving u, and its dependent on what they were doing, and how highly they rank u on their subconcious preferred list. sometimes u dun even noe if they wanna talk to u. There is alwiz a tendency to feel bad.. especially when its someone u may like, u dun really wanna get into his/her bad books.
Mebbe no one else has this phobia.. but its smtg tht i've nvr gotten used to - using the phone. Even now, I use the phone just to arrange to meet somewhere. I guess it does have its limitations.
yea, it does actually.
So wat abt sms? hah. tht I'll leave to another post..
Pondering many minutes, finally deciding. pick up the handset and dial, one ring, two... oh god, how long does it take for ppl to answer!? "Hello?" oh.. someone picked up! *gulp*
tht's where it all begins..

I have a thing abt music - I like to listen to it. I have a thing against Deejays - they talk too much. When I turn on the radio, I want to listen to music. What I get instead is deejays talking on and on to themselves abt themselves, abt irrelevant dedications to ppl, telling their frens to stay "cool and funky" (if they were tht, would they even send in dedications..?), and lovers who aren't even tuned-in. What I get are radio ads (only a handful of which are entertaining), and sticky traffic situations, and lots of weird techie noises (zooming, popping, crashing.. etc) which does not qualify as music (no, techno is not wat I'll call music). What I DON'T get when I turn the radio on - the music.
I'll stick to my mp3s, thank you.
I'll stick to my mp3s, thank you.
A wise man once said, "even when u think u learnt nothing, u learnt something" (not the exact quote I'm sure). Further enforced by Calvin (frm Calvin & Hobbes), "whatever isn't fun, builds character.."
I was at Xenbar again today, but this time my class wasn't there. not one of them. and worse still, there were no other beginners arnd either (strangely..)! We danced with ourselves (Willy, Ying and Alice), and then when the gals left, we danced with ourselves.. heh
The problem with dancing with a senior girl, is that she'll be terribly bored with all your moves (yes, the ones u were so proud to have mastered), and so you're pressured into trying to lead her as best as u can, but your mind churns out a blank, and it just gets more and more stressful! oh god!
But like I said, u learn smtg even when u think u didn't.. =) on hindsight la.
Anyway, tonite was a complete opposite of what went on last week, where we spent most of the nite helping out these 2 gals who turned out to be such great company. U learn as u teach, and u get to noe more dance partners. So I'm giving a shout out to all ladies who read this blog, if you're interested in picking up salsa, give me a call. I'd be more than glad to show u the basic moves. with just tht, u can do anything, cos its the guy who's leading; if u can master your basics, u can look great with a good partner leading. so this way, when I go xenbar again, I'll have more ppl who I won't feel pressured dancing with!
it really is a whole lotta fun! but as with everything, u start frm the bottom and work your way up. there's a lot of motivation to keep me going.. you could be part of tht! haha

A few weeks ago, I received an email from OSA informing me that I had received a "Gold Award for Sporting Excellence" from NUS. Since it was a free dinner and Wongie was getting one as well, I went ahead and confirmed our attendance for it. Tonite, as I was sitting there and looking at the award recipients and the other athletes around, I realised that our award was a real tough one to get.. we weren't just some anon names on a list of over two hundred athletes (of all kinds) in NUS, we were 2 of 17 Full Colours Gold Award recipients! It was a BIG thing.. Wong and myself were actually the last 2 award recipients that nite, our catogory being the grandest. cos there was no other club after K for Kendo.
Even the Super-Asshole of the Year, a certain prez of a certain Sports Club (not sub-club, mind u) in NUS (yet who somehow remains strangely popular with ppl - muz be of similar mental incapabilities as mentioned in previous posts), only received something called "Half Colours" (prolly for his outstanding achievements in mastering the art of annoying ppl) which sounds condescendingly insulting when u think abt it.. In any case, I felt like I owed someone smtg for this great honour (our Chair was one name tht came to mind many times tht nite - Kendo Ken, and all his effort for helping us get this).. so Wongie and I went to thank Mr Chiang, our sports officer, who had been so so helpful to me since my prez days. We left rite after that (cos the itinerary said aforementioned Prez was going to give a speech next - we weren't abt to stay to hear his raspy corrected beng-speak) saying our farewells to the dragon-boat ladies we shared the table with.
On hindsight, the cert prolly doesn't matter much in the working world, I'm beginning to realise that, but hey, mebbe its just cos its not wat the ppl I've applied to are looking for. But the thing is - it was a free dinner at Grand Copthorne Waterfront, and I get a nice plaque for my dad to show off to my relatives.. hah.
Ppl I have to thank for this:
too many to mention. (I din prepare a thank you speech, and I dun think I will anyways)

I was in Japan sometime in July last year and attended a World University Student Kendo Gathering.. I regret not taking enough pictures, but just today, I received an email from a Swiss kendoka whom I met and travelled with there. He's just put up a site which has filled me with a deep nostalgic longing for a return trip, tears well in my eyes, etc etc.. I remember everything now.. =)
Anyway, pls do check out the site, I din realise how many pics he took.. its really a great summary of the happenings there, at least for the Gosshaku and the Tokyo bits where I was around. Read details which I left out when I showed u my own crappy Japan pics... Daniel's Japan Trip Journal
There's a new look to juneandtheocean to kick off the next leg of my life - the moving on and on, up and up bit.. I've given myself more space to write, smtg I wanted to for a while, since I kept having to summarise myself for fear of being to wishy-washy (but then, the short terse detail WAS part of the old charm wasn't it?). Anyway, I so want to write more, and yea, 3 column design lost out to the 2, and after some slight formatting, which ended up taking me the whole nite anyway.. tadah... here it is. reading for your leisure..

My One and Only Love
-Sting (frm Leaving Las Vegas)
The very thought of you makes my heart sing
Like an April breeze
On the wings of spring
And you appear in all your splendour
My one and only love
The shadows fall and spread their mystic charms
In the hush of night
While you're in my arms
I feel your lips so warm and tender
My one and only love
The touch of your hand is like heaven
A heaven that I've never known
The blush on your cheek whenever I speak
Tells me that you are my own
You fill my eager heart with such desire
Every kiss you give sets my soul on fire
I give myself in sweet surrender
My one and only love
The blush on your cheek whenever I speak
Tells me that you are my own
You fill my eager heart with such desire
Every kiss you give sets my soul on fire
I give myself in sweet surrender
My one and only love

I admire ppl who noe wat they wanna do. I respect ppl who have done the right things in order to be on a perch. I bow to those who have had their minds opened and let no boundaries stop them from what they want to achieve.
Whenever I come into contact with ppl like these, I am just filled with awe.. especially when I realise how normal and human they are in person - there's just a little smtg different, and that makes them stand out. What is the difference between them and me? not much really, but tht difference creates such a wide gap between us. Will I ever be like tht? I really dunno. things dun alwiz get thrust into your lap. sometimes u gotta work really hard - lessons I really should learn.
I noe my dream job, I noe a person who has tht job.. and I want it. I'm afraid I won't make it tho. nothing ventured, nothing gained? perhaps. I just hope I'm not venturing on the wrong path.
Peace.
